Endorsed by the line ministries in Somaliland, the Observatory of Conflict and Violence Prevention (OCVP) is continuing monitoring the safety and security of Burao for the seven month.

Half of the year 2012 passed as of this update. The Observatory of Conflict and Violence Prevention (OCVP) also continues monitoring the safety and security of Burao for the six month.

This update is the fifth of its kind in 2012. Observatory of Conflict and Violence Prevention (OCVP) has started in January the collection of the data related to safety and security of Burao from its central police station and hospital, courts including Islamic Shari’a courts, and traditional leaders.

The very beginning of the year, 2012, has witnessed the emergence of a new administration in the swathe of disputed territories between Somaliland and Punland State of Somalia. The new state is dubbed Khaatumo in a meeting that has been attended by intellectuals, politicians and traditional leaders healing from Sool, Sanaag, and Ceyn regions; the elected president urged Somaliland to withdraw from these regions and pave the way for peaceful coexistence.

The indicators monitoring is successfully continuing for the second month, March. Based on the agreed indicators between the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Observatory of Conflict and Violence Prevention (OCVP), the relevant data has been collected from their identified sources.
